Stay Focus’d

In a time when everybody and their grandmother change cars every other year, Mike Lynch has held onto his 2003 Zx3 since 2004. The car shows its 5 year long ownership well. From the turbocharged motor to the full R/S setup, this is one Focus that stands out from the rest. When you first think of a Focus, you think slow, cheap, econo-box and this is anything but. Pushing 253whp Mike’s Focus does a modest 13.4 quarter mile at 108mph. Weighing in at only 2500lbs you would think that time would be at least a little quicker. Well not if you don’t have traction till 3rd gear. Don’t get me wrong, Mike’s car is no joke. There is more into this car than meets the eye, and mike has the mod list to prove it.

Mike is also one of the most modest car enthusiasts I have met. He is the last person to come up and say, “Dude check out my new set of rims yo!” And why should he? The car speaks for it self. Whether it is the fact that the car is almost touching the pavement or the sound it makes pulling up, you know right away it is not your everyday Focus. This car has been changed from the ground up. New wheels, new sound system, even a new antenna and reverse light. Almost everything on this car has been touched and it shows.

I’ve had my conversations with other enthusiasts about the car and always end up getting the same response, “a Focus?” But my question to them is why not? In an age where everyone is trying to be different and unique why not try something new? This is easily one of my favorite cars on the road today simply because of its uniqueness. You will never see another car like it and wouldn’t expect for it to be as fast as it is. I mean come on, it is after all, a Focus. Hopefully more of you down the line will appreciate this car for what is done to it rather than just brushing it off. Remember, it’s not some econo-box or another ricer that thinks his hatch is a Porsche. Big thanks to Mike for cooperating with me and my shenanigans. And thanks to the security guard for letting us have the photoshoot!

Interview:
RF: Ok first off, why mod a Focus?
ML: My mom had a sedan that i used to drive. I fell in love with the european Focus so I wanted my own.
RF: Is this the first Focus you’ve modded?
ML: I modded the sedan white ZTS.
RF: What’s the question you get most about your car?
ML: What kind of car is that?
RF: Ok, now i have to know, what’s the story behind the euro plate?
ML: Just the plate in general?
RF: Ya, why on a Domestic?
ML: The bumper has the spot for it, and I wanted to make it look more euro. The Bumpers are made in Germany. To be honest it looks weird without it haha.
RF: Was there ever a point in time where you thought about selling the car?
ML: Hell no, it’s my baby.
RF: What are your future plans for the car?
ML: Bigger turbo, return fuel system, and cage.
RF: Does the car surprise people when they realize it’s not your everyday Focus?
ML: Yea I surprise a few people or at least I think so.
RF: Anyone you want to give a shout out to?
ML: Adam @ Rim Pro, Dom and Dan @ Next Level Motorsports, and everyone that stayed up late helping me work on it.
